Handle customer deadlines in help desk requests
Record a requested deadline without turning it into an unsupported service promise or unsafe priority override.
Direct answer
A customer deadline is useful context, but it does not prove urgency, feasibility, or ownership. Record what event creates the deadline, what will be affected if it is missed, and which facts the decision owner must confirm.
Distinguish a requested completion time from the queue’s response checkpoint. A specialist can acknowledge the deadline and route the work while stating honestly that a final outcome depends on the owner who controls the action.
Do not raise priority solely because a date appears in the message. Compare impact, risk, affected users, and evidence with the published priority rule, and record any approved exception separately.
Review deadline-driven tickets after completion. Look for unrecorded commitments, late escalations, and customers who interpreted a polite acknowledgement as a guaranteed result.
