Customer verification questions for help desk requests

Use approved signals to confirm a requester without asking for passwords or creating a second source of risk.

Direct answer

Verification should match the action being requested. A general how-to answer may need no account check, while an account change requires the approved identity path for that system.

Write the allowed questions in plain language and state what the specialist must never request. Passwords, recovery codes, and unrelated personal details should not become part of a support ticket.

When the signals do not match, explain the next safe step instead of arguing with the requester. Route the concern to the account owner and record only the facts needed for that review.

Sample verification tickets for both successful and failed attempts. The sample should show whether the response was clear, the record was proportionate, and the stopping rule was followed.
