Control duplicate help desk knowledge articles
Consolidate overlapping support guidance while preserving the clearest scope, source, and customer path.
Direct answer
Duplicate articles create choice without improving the answer. Compare their audience, supported request, source evidence, steps, exceptions, and search terms before deciding whether they are true duplicates or intentionally separate lanes.
Choose one canonical article and make the relationship visible during the transition. Redirect or link older guidance where the platform supports it, and update macros and routing labels so specialists do not continue selecting a stale copy.
Do not merge articles that only look similar but have different authorization, risk, or ownership boundaries. A routine setup answer and a protected account-change path may need separate stopping points even when customers use the same words.
Measure the consolidation through search behavior, ticket references, and recontacts. Retain an owner and review trigger for the canonical article so duplication does not return after the next policy or product change.
