Write help desk article scope that prevents misuse
Tell readers exactly who an article serves, what it covers, and where the documented path must stop.
Direct answer
An article’s scope is a safety control. State the audience, supported system or request, prerequisites, expected result, and cases that require a different owner before listing the steps.
Use concrete boundaries instead of a broad claim that the article handles an entire category. A recovery guide may explain a public reset path while excluding failed verification, administrator accounts, and suspected compromise.
Include the evidence a specialist should record after following the answer. This helps the next owner understand what happened without asking for secrets or repeating steps that already failed.
Review article use against real tickets. If readers regularly stop in different places or send unsupported cases through the same route, narrow the scope or add a clearly linked escalation path.
