Carry a customer language preference through a help desk handoff
Preserve the requested language and translation limits without guessing fluency or meaning.

Direct answer
A language preference should travel with the active customer need. Record the customer’s stated preference and the channel where it applies, using the approved field rather than an informal label.
Keep technical identifiers and quoted error text exact. When translation is used, distinguish customer wording, translated wording, and support interpretation so the next owner can see what changed.
Do not infer nationality, location, literacy, or consent from a language choice. Route sensitive or high-impact translation needs through the approved service and review path.
Review handoffs for repeated re-asking and meaning loss. Improve the visible field, glossary, or escalation trigger when the same terms create uncertainty.
