A focused queue-aging review for help desk owners

Find stalled work by combining age, next action, risk, customer promise, and accountable ownership.

Direct answer

Age alone does not explain why a ticket is still open. Review the last meaningful action, current status, waiting party, risk, promised update, and owner before deciding what an aging ticket needs.

Separate tickets waiting on a customer from tickets waiting on an internal decision. Both may be old, but the next action, update language, and escalation route are different. A waiting label without a checkpoint hides the real delay.

Prioritize by consequence and lost expectation rather than by age alone. A recent security signal can matter more than an older low-impact question, while an old customer promise may need an immediate owner review.

Keep a short aging sample for the queue owner. Look for repeated stalls caused by unclear routing, missing approval evidence, unavailable owners, or articles that do not cover the actual request.
