How to transfer help desk queue ownership cleanly

Move open work between coverage windows with a named owner, a clear next action, and an honest customer expectation.

Direct answer

A queue transfer is a change in responsibility, not just a change in who can see the tickets. Before the transfer, the outgoing owner should identify risk, due work, waiting customers, and decisions still open.

Use one handoff note for each ticket that needs attention. State the current status, last action, next action, owner, and time the customer should hear again.

The receiving specialist should accept the work or flag a missing fact before the previous coverage window closes. Silent transfer leaves the customer with an invisible delay.

After the transfer, check a small sample for missing context. If the same field is absent more than once, update the handoff standard and tell the queue owner what changed.
