Capture customer consent before help desk actions

Distinguish permission to troubleshoot from approval for a consequential account or service change.

Direct answer

A customer asking for help has not automatically approved every action a specialist could take. Define which routine checks can proceed from the request and which changes require a clear confirmation, an approved identity step, or a separate owner decision.

Record what the customer agreed to, what the specialist actually did, and what remains outside the consent. Keep the wording concrete: identify the system, action, scope, and expected effect instead of relying on a vague “please proceed.”

Do not treat consent as a substitute for authorization. Account ownership, security controls, financial outcomes, and policy exceptions still belong to the named decision owner even when the requester is eager to continue.

Sample tickets for missing or overbroad consent. Use the findings to improve reply language, intake fields, and the point where a specialist must pause before changing state.
