Check the customer outcome before closing help desk work

Confirm that the recorded action addressed the requested outcome and that remaining work has a visible owner.

Direct answer

A completed support action is not always a completed customer outcome. Before closure, compare the original goal with the result the ticket records, the customer-facing explanation, and any condition that still depends on another owner.

Use verification appropriate to the request. A documented link may be enough for a routine how-to answer, while an access change, service recovery, or technical fix may require the named owner or customer to confirm a specific result.

Do not pressure a customer into saying a problem is solved or treat silence as proof for a sensitive case. If evidence is incomplete, choose the approved waiting or escalation path and keep the next checkpoint visible.

Review closed tickets against recontacts, reopen reasons, and downstream decisions. Improve the closure question or source workflow when the queue repeatedly confuses an internal action with the customer’s actual outcome.
