Make help desk ticket reassignments explainable

Record why work moved, who accepted it, and what the customer should expect after the reassignment.

Direct answer

A reassignment changes the path of a customer request, so the reason belongs in the record. Use a small set of meaningful reasons such as skill boundary, risk escalation, wrong queue, coverage change, or owner absence.

Name the receiving owner or accountable queue and state the next action. A destination without acceptance leaves the ticket technically moved but operationally unowned.

Keep the customer update aligned with the move. Explain what has been understood, who is reviewing the request, and when the next checkpoint will occur without implying that the new owner has already approved an outcome.

Review reassignment patterns by request type and team. Frequent moves may reveal inaccurate categories, unclear scope, missing training, or an owner map that does not match how the service actually works.
